THE BEGINNING

OUR STORY

If you ask me to narrate, how it all began, I would simply quote Mother Teresa from Calcutta – India. Who once said: “When you get into a dark room, you don’t complain of its darkness, but you light up a candle. Then light will overpower darkness. Then, the whole room will be consumed in bright light.”

The reality of poverty my people are going through downed on me with a deep compassion, when I went to my village in Kenya. I looked at the pain and suffering my people were going through with a heart of compassion and I saw a people who were going through darkness. I saw a people who were being oppressed by poverty, HIV and AIDS prevalence and many misery against widows and orphans. I knew someone had to come forth and bring relief to these people.

The predicament of my people really touched my heart. I remember crying when I met a sickly, weak – almost to death widow begging for just food for the sake of her life and her children. They had not eaten for days and my response to their situation was like a miracle to them. Since then I have seen the Lord using Echoes of Mercy Mission as a beacon of hope for the present life and eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ.

One day, on my way to Tanzania, the hymnal “Blessed Assurance” was playing on the car stereo. The Lord used the words (echoes of mercy) a stanza of the song as a motivating factor to touch the lives of my people. It was at this point that I developed a deep conviction to start Echoes of Mercy Mission. Since then the Lord has used Echoes of Mercy Mission as His “hand” in uplifting the lives of these people and I give God all the glory for what He has accomplished through Echoes of Mercy Mission so far. Even though more is still to be done, I pray that the Lord will bring forth more beacons of light to bring relief to His people in following Christ’s footsteps of underlying principle of mercy towards the needy in the society.
